#TeamWindmill
Windmill Farms believes that sustainable food production depends on strong relationships — with employees, communities, customers, and partners across the supply chain. As a vertically integrated mushroom grower operating across North America, the company’s social responsibility efforts are centered on supporting people, strengthening communities, and contributing to a more resilient food system.
Supporting the People Behind the Operation
Reliable support, year-round
Mushroom production depends on skilled labor and a reliable workforce throughout the year. We participate in Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program to support our operations while providing employment opportunities to workers from abroad. Temporary foreign workers are part of operations across our Canadian facilities, and their success and wellbeing are essential to maintaining strong production standards and a positive workplace culture.
Housing & settlement support
We provide housing for temporary foreign workers in centrally located apartments in Whitby, Ajax, and Oshawa, with convenient access to public transportation, grocery stores, restaurants, and other everyday amenities. These locations help workers settle into the community while staying connected to the places and services they need. Dedicated multilingual personnel also support workers with healthcare services, banking, immigration processes, and adapting to life in Canada. This support is available throughout the year to help workers navigate day-to-day needs while building a sense of stability and community.
Training, recognition & continuous improvement
In addition to housing and settlement support, we invest in training, recognition, and continuous improvement. Temporary foreign workers participate in comprehensive, role-specific training programs tailored to Windmill’s operations, while employee recognition initiatives such as Mush Valued Player, the Monthly Birthday Club, Summer BBQ, and Christmas Dinner help strengthen workplace connection and employee satisfaction. We also continue to review and improve internal policies to better support worker experience over time
